Substances or drugs with the inherent ability of improving the functions of the human brain are called nootropics. Its use came during the 20th Century as scientists try to improve human understanding, a novel drug was made. From that moment on, naturalists have also searched for ways to achieve improve cognition naturally. Several substances are sold today as nootropic agents, with different chemical composition and results in different people, giving different experiences; mine was in med school last year.
Stress is known to decrease understanding, declining comprehension is mostly seen during exams, especially when you’re studying a course like Medicine. Naturally, without stressors like a demanding schedule, it would be easier to meet up with the scope of work required for the semester. This is why we were encouraged to take some supplements that could boost our brain functions, to help us deal with stress before exams. Some did not want to take them because, according to them, they had heard different stories that were discouraging, and they sat this one out. Since exams was almost a month away, those who bought the supplement used it during the tests, their results was better than most others, not entirely everyone did badly, there are smart people in med school.
Those figures on the scoreboard were like an eye-opener, which encouraged many others to go on supplements to improve their cognition, relief stress to mention a few. We all joined, and honesty, it wasn’t as scary as some would say. The supplements we took were basically herbals, it was expensive but had little or zero side effects. Even though there are cheap products who would offer similar result, especially drugs, it’s encouraged that it you’re getting a nootropic ensure it’s as natural as possible. We ordered for some of these products, each person selected based on their individual research.
When the results were released, we observed that not everyone who took a nootropic did exceptionally. While others improved, some showed no improvements or even declined in their performance. We could easily observe an uneven response to these supplements, it caused everyone to revisit some literatures. The discovery was that, not everyone responded to nootropics the same way, or even needs them. Good advice in cases like this is to consult your healthcare giver before starting on any of these substances. They’d confirm if it’s good for you, and will provide relevant information on how you can use them too.
